First Armenian-Azerbaijani Public Forum on Peacebuilding issues

International Alert recently organised the first Armenian-Azerbaijani Public Forum on “The Peacebuilding Process: Democratisation”, which took place from 30th May-1st June in Istanbul, Turkey.

Azerbaijani and Armenian experts, including current and former residents of Nagorny Karabakh, attended the forum. The participants discussed the democratisation and peacebuilding processes in connection with elections and the role of the media. The prospects of democratisation and problems linked to development of democratic institutions in the region were discussed along with human rights, minority issues and the role of international organisations in the democratisation processes.

The next Armenian-Azerbaijani Public Forum will discuss issues of security in the region and will take place this autumn.
